July 22 – Madrid’s High Court of Justice (TSJM) has confirmed the 2007 decision over the leasing of 120,000 sq m of land in 1998 by Las Rozas Town Hall to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), enforcing the return of the land to the local authority.
The site is the location of Spain’s ‘Ciudad del Futbol’, the official headquarters of the Spanish Federation and where the national team has been prepared for World and European tournaments over recent years.
The Madrid court decision cannot be appealed and rejected the plea lodged before the High Court in 2009 that claimed the case should be annulled.
The court ruling claimed highlighted how there had been no attempt to respect the original sentence handed out in 2004 which was then declared “non-reversible” in 2007 despite the numerous attempts to uphold it.
The Mayor of Las Rozas now has 60 days to start the process of returning the land to the local government – he has been made personally responsible to make sure the sentence is upheld and that the land is finally returned to its rightful owners “due to the repeated abuse of rights exercised by the parties”.
Any delay in the process of RFEF returning the land which belongs to Las Rozas town hall is under threat from a daily fine of €300 – should the Mayor fail to fulfil the court’s demands.
