Interactive Gold Cup

July 23 – Tonight’s double header semi-finals of CONCACAF’s Gold Cup at the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, will be split between matches by the final of the CONCACAF Interactive Gold Cup 2013 (CIGC13), played out live on the big screen in the stadium by gamers using Playstation 3 consoles.

“I went to Spain to watch FIFA’s Interactive World Cup Finals and I thought we could take it a stage further, using the time between the matches to put the gamers on the big screen,” said Enrique Sanz, general secretary of CONCACAF.

In the ‘real’ Gold Cup (as opposed to the virtual one), the US vs Honduras semi final will open the proceedings with Mexico vs Panama being the second semi-final. The two CIGC13 finals will take centrestage between the matches, and will be played out on the stadium Jumbotron.

The CIGC13 is being held in conjunction with FIFA and EA SPORTS. Participating fans from all of CONCACAF’s member associations were eligible to enter.

The online qualification was played on FIFA Interactive World Cup 2013 (FIWC13) Season 6 via the PlayStation® network. Players selected which country they were going to represent with 12 online winners qualifying for the CIGC13 Grand Final, following the same seeding as the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup: 1 player from Canada; 1 from Mexico; 1 from the US; 5 from Central America (one per country) and 4 players from the Caribbean (one per country)

The champion of the 2013 CONCACAF Interactive Gold Cup will win an all-expense paid, VIP trip for two to the Gold Cup final this Sunday July 28 at Soldier Field in Chicago where the CONCACAF Interactive Gold Cup trophy will also be officially presented.
