July 30 – Asian Football Confederation vice-president Moya Dodd has vowed to work for the development of the game in the continent in her additional role as the co-opted member of the FIFA executive committee. Dodd, who finished runner-up in the historic three-way battle for an elected women’s seat at the FIFA Congress in May, instead gained a one-year co-opted role.
“Even though I ran second in the vote, I gained substantial support beyond Asia and I am very much looking forward to the opportunity given to me to serve on the FIFA ExCo,” she said.
Dodd, who is also the chairperson of the AFC Women’s Committee, has chalked out a strategy to develop the women’s game in the continent. ”We are in the midst of finalising the Strategic Development Plan for women’s football and I am confident that its implementation will take Asian women’s football to new heights.
“We have produced world champions in women’s football and it is our aim to spread the game in all the member associations. It will be my endeavour to reach out to all the MAs (member associations) and know their needs in order to implement the women’s development plan.”
