2014 ticket price comparison, as Tahiti Beach Soccer finals sell-out

World Cup tickets

August 30 – The first round of public ticketing for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil saw more that more than 400,000 fans request over 2.3 million tickets in the first 24 hours. Brazilians led the way in terms of demand by country.

How far ticket price levels are fuelling (or restricting) demand is uncertain, but in Brazil the World Cup ticket prices look to be competitive, if not cheaper in general, than other comparable events.

For example, a Jon Bon Jovi concert in Brazil cost between R$180 and R$680.00 ($90-$340. Reduced price tickets cost between R$90 and R$340 ($45-$170). The Rock in Rio music festival had its lowest reduced price at R$130 ($ 65). A ticket to the Cirque du Soleil costs between R$190 and R$630 ($90-$315 ) or to a Formula 1 race between R$995 and R$14,200 ($498-$7,100 ) .

In comparison, a World Cup ticket for Brazilians eligible for discounts is starting to look like good value with the cheapest World Cup tickets for the 47 group matches (excluding the opening game) costing R$30 ($15), and for the World Cup finals around R$165 ($82). Discounts apply to students, people over 60 and members of the social assistance program ” Bolsa Familia “.

Category 4 Final tickets at the normal price for Brazilians are R$ 330 ($165).

In comparison to other major events:

2012 Olympic Games:
Athletics Finals: Top price £750 ($1,100); cheapest £ 50 ($76)
Opening Ceremony: Top price £ 2,012 ($3,000)
Closing Ceremony: Top price £1,500 ($2,300) – cheapest £150 ($234)
U.S. Open Final: Top price $5,371- cheapest $160
Super Bowl Final 2013: Top price $13,120 – cheapest $1,920

It is not just the 2014 World Cup that is seeing huge demand for tickets. The Beach Soccer World Cup in Tahiti at the end of September has already sold out of tickets for the final and semi-finals. The quarter finals are expected to sell out

All this will be music to FIFA’s ears after the disappointing attendances at the mens Under 21 World Championships in Turkey this summer.
