September 16 – A report by Socialbakers for August shows the Premier League as the world’s fastest growing sports Facebook site over the month, with 1.2 million new fans. Second is the UEFA Champions League with the UEFA Europa League coming in third with just over 500,000 new fans.
The fastest growing page over a single week shows a slightly different picture with the Champions League swapping places with the Premier League.
No American properties top the monthly growth list but the NBA and WWE do top the sports list with 17.9 million and 12.8 million fans respectively. In contrast the Champions League has 11.35 million fans and the Premier League 7.2 million fans (in seventh place). The Indian cricket team has 8.2 million fans.
In contrast, in Germany, the cult of Gareth Bale is gathering pace with his Facebook site being the fastest growing over the month, beating Real Madrid, the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League into fourth place. No sight of a Bundesliga page in the August growth list.
