October 7 – Annual accounts for 2012 filed by Footwork Productions show David Beckham received a £14.1 million pay package as director of the company set up to handle much of the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, Milan, LA Galaxy, Paris Saint-Germain and England star’s sponsorship and image rights income.
The payout to Beckham was up 6% from the £13.28 million paid out in 2011 whilst the businesses’ £16.5 million turnover represents an increase of almost 8% from the £15.3 million. The company paid £94,000 in corporation tax.
The Footwork Productions directors write that they are “satisfied” with the company’s performance and expect a “sustained level of endorsement income” across 2013.
The other directors at Footwork Productions include sports lawyer Andrew Thompson and Anthony Adams, Beckham’s father-in-law with Victoria as company secretary.
Despite retirement from football, Beckham looks to continue to enjoy high profile roles including as the first global ambassador for Chinese football.
The new figures indicate David Beckham’s enduring appeal to sponsors which made him Britain’s richest sportsman and the world’s wealthiest footballer, with money coming in from Adidas, H&M, Diet Pepsi, Samsung and Sainsbury’s.
