January 9 – Malaysian second tier club Kedah have denied that they have been forced to change their colours from green and yellow to red as a result of fresh investment by controversial Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan.
Tan caused uproar among fans of the English Premier League side, which is nicknamed The Bluebirds, when he switched the team’s shirts from blue to red strip following his takeover.
Reports from Malaysia say a similar situation had angered fans of Kedah, three-time Malaysian champions. But the club’s honorary secretary Aminuddin Omar rejected the suggestion they had their hand forced.
“We did not change the logo or colour according to our own taste or fancy but it was part of a transformation … for the development of football in the state,” Aminuddin was quoted as saying.
Last month, Tan added to his football portfolio by agreeing a deal to take over the control and management of Bosnian club Sarajevo (they already play in maroon-red strip).
