FIFA turns Slovak match-fixing sanctions into global bans

FIFA House

January 30 – Four Slovakian league players have been given worldwide bans by FIFA for their involvement in match-fixing this season.

The four players, three of them from bottom-of-the-table DAC Dunajska Streda, had all previously been sanctioned by the Slovak Football Association in December.

Tomas Huber was given an 18 year ban form involvement in ny football activity, teammate Ivan Hodur 14 years and Michal Dian 18 months. But the heaviest sanction was meted out to Marian Dirnbach, who plays for lower-league Moravany, who received a 25 year ban.

Altogether 12 former and current players have been detained in the Czech Republic and another seven in Slovakia suspected of match-fixing. The culprits were reported to be offered bribes of up to €60,000.
