January 30 – The Qatar-based International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS), whose remit is becoming increasingly relevant in terms of both match-fixing and stadium safety, has announced a partnership with Germany’s football league to enhance operations at event venues round the world,
The agreement will see both parties utilising their existing expertise to develop a range of educational programmes and stadium management courses to help leagues improve security.
“By combining the experience and strength of the German Football League and the international expertise of the ICSS, this new agreement will enhance knowledge and best practice to develop special programmes that will be delivered to the international football community,” said Helmut Spahn, Executive Director of the ICSS.
“From my experience in delivering major international sporting events, I know only too well the areas of operational and security excellence within the DFL and Bundesliga. By working together and sharing knowledge with other clubs, leagues and countries around the world, the ICSS and DFL can proactively contribute to the hosting of safer major international sporting events.”
The agreement with the DFL adds to the portfolio of leagues that the ICSS is working with across its areas of core expertise – safety, security and integrity. The ICSS works with the European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL), the Spanish and Italian Leagues and the Qatar Stars League (QSL).
Andreas Rettig, Chief Operating Officer of the DFL, added: “The ICSS has developed over the past years a worldwide hub for international knowledge regarding safety and security matters in sport. On the other hand as one of the leading football leagues with the highest spectator average of the world we are happy to share match operation matters and stadium experiences of our experts with colleagues all over the world. We are sure that both sides will benefit from each other within this cooperation in the future.”
