Bulgarian champions build for Europe with €10m revamp of Ludogorets Arena

February 6 – The state in Bulgaria has allocated 3 million leva (€1,5 million) for the reconstruction of the Ludogorets Arena Stadium in Razgrad. The project was approved by ministers yesterday, with the money being allocated from a fund for ‘Growth and sustainable development in the region’. The stadium is home of current league champions PFC Ludogorets.

Local government had original requested 4 million leva (€2 million), but prior to the grant being awarded the governor of Razgrad Stoyan Nenchev reported that 1 million lev (€0,5 m) was being cut from the budget in the next year.

The owner of Ludogorets, Cyril Domuschiev, has already said he is prepared to invest 16 million leva (€8 million) in the reconstruction of the sports facility, if there is local government assist the project.

Domuschiev is eager for his team to be able to play its matches in the group stage of Europa League and other European competitions at Ludogorets Arena Stadium in Razgrad.

Currently the team plays its home games in the Europa League at the National Stadium Vassil Levski in Sofia – 335 km away from their home town of Razgrad.

Ludogorets Arena Stadium is owned by the local municipality and managed by PFC Ludogorets on a contract basis for a public-private partnership.
