Bulgarian mobile operators connect with leading clubs

February 12 – Bulgaria’s PFC Litex Lovech has signed a new sponsorship contract with Mtel, the largest telecommunications company in the country. No figure has been announced for the deal but the fee will rise depending on the success of the club.

The three-year contract between the service provider and the leader in the Bulgarian Championship has planned bonuses built in if the team finishes first or second in the Bulgarian Championship as well as winning the Cup of Bulgaria.

Players will also receive additional money if Litex qualify for the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

“The sponsorship of PFC Litex is part of the consistent policy of Mtel in support of sports in the country. Litex is in the top three of the best teams in the Bulgarian Championship. As a leading company in the telecommunications sector it is natural for us to support the leading teams in Bulgarian sport,” said Peter Rizov, director of business sales at Mtel .

“The support of the largest telecom operator in Bulgaria is a recognition of the success of Litex. We are confident that our cooperation will be beneficial and will lead to new sports and business success for both sides,” added the president of Litex Lovech Trifon Popov.

A few months ago, the four times champion holder of the Bulgarian Cup, terminated its sponsorship contract with GLOBUL, the second largest mobile company in Bulgaria .

Mtel has been a sponsor of another top Bulgarian club – Levski Sofia – for partners 15 years. Prior to that CSKA Sofia was sponsored by VIVACOM, which is the third ranked mobile operator in Bulgaria. From next season VIVACOM will sponsor Botev Plovdiv.
