February 20 – Ruch Chorzow has signed an innovative sponsorship deal with Germany’s Fuchs Oil. Under the first long-term deal of this kind in Poland, the new sponsor will pay the club a fee each time it scores a goal.

“We are happy that Fuchs Oil … recognised that promotion through football is the most effective form of advertising and decided to establish cooperation with Ruch Chorzow,” Donata Chrusciel, director of marketing and public relations at the Polish club, was quoted in a statement. “We hope that this project will motivate our footballers to score goals on the one hand, and allow Fuchs Oil to effectively promote its products on the other hand.”

The contract, whose amount was not disclosed by Ruch, will be valid at least until the end of this year, according to the statement.

“If the deal brings the expected results and its basic goals are achieved, it is very likely that the cooperation will be extended over just one season. We will be crossing our fingers for the squad,” said Miroslaw Knyc, trade director for Fuchs Oil.

Set up in 1927 and based in Chorzow, in Poland’s southern Silesia region, Ruch currently plays in the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of Poland’s professional football league. Between 1933 and 1989, the club won the Polish championship 14 times. Ruch’s stadium has a total capacity of 10,000, according to data released by the club.
