March 25 – FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke is back in Brazil for another series of trouble-shooting World Cup meetings, this time focussing on Sao Paulo, which stages the opening game.
The latest round of inspection visits comes as host cities face a race against time to get ready for the tournament that opens in less than three months.
Three stadiums are still not yet finished, two of which FIFA have admitted won’t be completed until a month before the start.
Valcke is scheduled to be in Rio de Janeiro until Thursday and in a statement FIFA said: “This is the last occasion for the organizers to take stock of the operational preparations before the respective FIFA World Cup installations begin to be implemented in all 12 host cities.”
Valcke will not visit any host cities this time but he will take a strong role in the board meeting of the local organising committee.
