April 11 – The Bulgarian Football Union, Bulgarian club Slavia and German investment company IFS have signed a preliminary agreement to build a new national stadium in Sofia. The deal between the three parties was finalised this week.
The facility will be built on the site of the current stadium of Slavia in the Bulgarian capital. Apart from Slavia, the stadium will be used by all Bulgaria’s national teams.
Sale of marketing and advertising rights will be handled by the German company.
The next step is preparation of the documents for authorisation by the institutions in Bulgaria as well as issue of tenders for the construction contractor. At the insistence of the IFS, the construction will be carried out by a non-Bulgarian company. It is expected that construction work on the project to start within 15 months.
The stadium will also incorporate facilities for volleyball and basketball which will be as part of the multifunctional complex.
The project cost is expected to be about €40 million.
