May 1 – Football statistics website whoscored.com has signed an exclusive deal with SkySports to share their unique ‘player characteristics’ on the SkySports website.

SkySports.com is the 59th most visited website in the UK according to alexa.com and in a landmark deal for the football stats company, player characteristics will feature on all of the player pages on SkySports.com, including Europe’s top five leagues as well as the Europa League and Champions League.

The London based whoscored.com which covers more than 500 tournaments, 10,000 teams, and 100,000 players, provides unique football statistics that help to analyse the major European divisions. The deal with skysports.com is “an exciting partnership for WhoScored.com as we continue to grow and we are delighted to be working with one of the world’s largest and most respected sports broadcasters, “said Managing Director Cristiano Acconci.

The player characteristics that will be used on the player pages of the SkySports website are calculated by putting players that play in a similar position in a group and then analysing various aspects of their game. They are then rated between ‘very strong’ and ‘very weak’ for each skill, based on how their performance compares to other players playing in the league in that same position.

SkySports Head of Content & Production, Owen Williams said: “We are very pleased to be working with WhoScored.com and their innovative approach to football data will give our users additional insight to the analysis we already provide on our website.”

This analysis is compiled from data received from Opta. Opta currently works with 22 broadcasters, 16 betting companies, 51 online publications (including whoscored.com) and 125 sports teams/governing bodies across the globe.
