World Cup and ball

May 29 – FIFA has today revealed details of the launch of its Global Stadium – an “online and mobile hub for the FIFA World Cup, which will help billions of football fans share their excitement and stay in touch with all the action”.

The online stadium will be available to fans and followers of the 2014 World Cup during all 64 matches in Brazil, with the audience able to follow all the live action including the options to engage with fellow fans, players and coaches from around the world.

People using the online stadium also have the opportunity to win the exact match ball used in the game they’re following and vote for their man of the match on the hub.

FIFA’s presence on social media has grown massively. Fams will have the opportunity to engage with multiple platforms to follow this year’s festival of football in Brazil.

The official FIFA world cup Facebook page has over 18 million people ‘liking’ it and FIFA’s official Twitter account has nearly 3 million followers. These numbers are expected to rise dramatically during the 4 weeks starting on June 12.

FIFA will also use the hashtags: #WorldCup and #Joinin during the competition, whilst each individual match will have a unique hashtag enabling fans to filter the specific match they want to follow or just the World Cup as a whole.

FIFA has scheduled release of the official World Cup application for ioS and android in the first week of June. FIFA have quickly embraced smartphone platforms and how ‘second screens’ are being used to follow/engage with football matches. This application and the continued social media activity will allow supporters to get the best, most enhanced and interactive World Cup coverage since its inception in 1930.

Walter De Gregorio, FIFA Director of Communications & Public Affairs, commented: “We aim to provide an all-round digital companion so that billions of fans can join in and share their excitement. Only the World Cup and digital can create this worldwide conversation.”
