July 17 – Legia Warsaw has extended its sponsorship with PepsiCo by a further three years. Under the deal, the company’s Gatorade brand will become the official sponsor of the Polish club’s Football Academy youth project.
“We are very happy at PepsiCo about our cooperation with Legia Warsaw … which is why we want to continue this successful cooperation for another three years,” Malgorzata Skonieczna, Director for external communication at PepsiCo Poland.
“We want to be closer to football supporters, and this is why we are enjoying the new role of Gatorade as the official sponsor of Legia Warsaw’s Football Academy.”
As part of the cooperation between the US brand and Legia, which was launched in 2011, the club’s stadium is named Pepsi Arena. The amount of the extended contract was not disclosed by the Warsaw-based side. The previous deal was estimated to be worth about PLN 6 million (€1.5 million) per year, according to local news site Sport.pl
“Since we started to use the Pepsi Arena name, we have been observing increased interest not only in our club, but also in this great stadium which complies with UEFA Category 4 criteria,” said Jakub Szumielewicz, Member of the Board of Legia Warsaw.
Szumielewicz said that the deal is a proof of “the positive image of youth football, and for [Legia] it is also a confirmation of [its] well-chosen club development strategy.”
