July 25 – UEFA has asked the Russian Football Union to provide documents on the licensing procedure of Russian Premier League FC Rostov. The club has qualified for this season’s Europa League.
The enquiry focuses around grants issued by the Rostov Region Foundation for Promotion of Sports, amounting to a reported $25,000 to each of the club’s players while in reality they received 15,000 rubles ($435) each under club contracts.
For UEFA the sums could be of importance when taking into account financial fair play regulations and whether FC Rostov are potentially in breach.
Rostov Vice President Alexander Shikunov told reporters that the club had dropped its co-operation with the fund more than 18 months ago.
Yuri Belous, a former Director General of FC Rostov who left in 2012, confirmed that players had been receiving a monthly salary of 15,000 rubles.
“I don’t know what system of remunerations the football club has now … but at the time when I was Director General of the Club the salary was 15,000 rubles, although some of them received 30,000 rubles.
“The footballers received their monies through the foundation,” he said.
