August 5 – With existing and emerging threats to sport on the increase, Securing Sport, the international conference organised by Qatar-based integrity watchdog the International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) is being staged in London for the first time.
The two-day conference will take place on October 6 and 7 and comes at the start of the same week as the annual Leaders in Football summit, also in London, which traditionally brings together the movers and shakers in world football, not least this year FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
Securing Sport is expected to attract experts from sport, government, international organisations, civil society, law enforcement and anti‐corruption bodies to address crucial issues such as match-fixing, gambling and child welfare under the theme ‘Sport under threat: the game is ours to win’.
The conference will also address continued efforts to set out a roadmap for introducing international legislation on sport integrity and create a trans-national sport integrity body.
“At a time when organised crime and security issues threaten to overwhelm sport, Securing Sport 2014 will provide a crucial opportunity to address some of the most significant challenges currently facing the industry,” said ICSS president Mohammed Hanzab.
