August 13 – Details of Russia’s stadium build for the 2018 World Cup are starting to be released. The Saransk Arena has now had official planning approval while August will see completion of the Spartak Moscow stadium.
According to a draft order posted on the Federal Cabinet website on Saturday, the 45,000 seat stadium in Saransk will be located to the south of the Volgograd street and to the east of the river Insar.
The plans provide for the demolition of existing low-rise buildings on this site. On the north-east side of the arena will be a business center, and to the south will be two shopping malls with parking. Between the Saransk River and the stadium there will be two 4-star hotels built with 40 rooms each.
The development also features two shopping complexes with parking.
Meanwhile Mutko has released further information on the progress of other stadia, saying that the new stadium Spartak in Moscow will complete on August 27.
“As for St. Petersburg, the stadium should be introduced in May 2016. This stadium is under construction in full swing,” said Mutko. The stadium had been the subject of delays and dispute over construction costs. Modernisation of the stadium in Sochi began earlier this month.
It now looks like the final figure for the development of training bases throughout Russia will be 64. Each base will have to have a four star hotel and natural grass training pitches with surrounding stands within 15 minutes. Six of the training bases are likely to be located in the St Petersburg and Leningrad areas.
