September 1 – Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad will play its home games in the Champions League at the National Stadium Vasil Levski in Sofia, according to a club announcement.
There were concerns that the stadium in the Bulgarian capital would not get the required license from UEFA to meet Champions League hosting criteria as a Category 4 stadium. However, the management of Ludogorets has said that it is committed and can meet all the stadium requirements.
Ludogorets are drawn in the same Champions League group as European champions Real Madrid, Liverpool and Swiss side Basel. The group stage qualification is the highest achievement in the Bulgarian club’s history and they will kick off their Champions League debut against Madrid in Sofia.
Ticket prices for the games will be announced later this week once they have been agreed with UEFA.
“All the home matches of this edition of the Champions League tournament will be played at the national stadium Vasil Levski. The home games of youth Champions League will be played also in Sofia and the stadium will be announced further,”, says the official release of Ludogorets.
The most likely venues for the youth matches will be either the Bulgarska armia stadium or the Georgi Asparouhov venue.
