September 5 – Manchester United’s £16 million Argentine signing Marcos Rojo has been cleared to join the club following a third party ownership wrangle and the complications of a criminal case back home.
The defender signed from Sporting Lisbon 16 days ago but has only now been given a work permit.
Claims that he rowed with a neighbour in Argentina in 2010 and was facing a court case had held up the process. However, reports in Argentina said that if he were to be found guilty after any trial, the likelihood would be that he would be placed on probation.
Manchester United confirmed on their official Twittter account that Rojo would now be available to make his debut in a week’s time.
The transfer had also been held up by Sporting Lisbon reportedly being in dispute with Doyen Sports Investments over how the £16 million fee is split between the two and the player’s previous club Spartak Moscow.
