Racism complaint prompts SFA to open Tonev investigation

Tonev and Logan

September 16 – The Scottish Football Association is examining allegations of racism during a Scottish Premier League game last weekend.

Celtic’s Bulgarian winger Aleksandar Tonev allegedly verbally abused Aberdeen defender Shay Logan, who is black.

SFA President Campbell Ogilvie said his organisation had received a complaint as part of the referee’s report. Aberdeen had complained that Tonev had made a racist remark toward Logan in the second half.

Tonev was making his Celtic debut after joining on a one-year loan deal from Aston Villa. Celtic vehemently denied the claim. “We have spoken to the player and he has stated that the accusation made is not true,” a statement said.
