September 16 – The owner of Spartak Moscow, Leonid Fedun, said that the newly opened Otkritie Arena cost RUB 14.5 billion (S378 million) to build. But that this is only the start of the project with hotels and an indoor arena to come next.
Sports stadium build and infrastructure will be a key topic at the World Football Forum 2014, to be held at the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow, November 13.

The Spartak project is one of a total of 1,070 infrastructure projects that have already been identified in the 11 host cities for the Russia 2018 World Cup. The Okritie Arena has a capacity of 45,360 – 39,000 attended the last match against Torpedo Moscow – with an indoor sports hall with 15,000 seats scheduled to be built next alongside two hotels.
Two leaders in the stadium business will head the discussion at the World Football Forum in Moscow on November 13: Amsterdam ArenA and Arena do Brasil CEO, Henk Markerink and President of the Brazilian Association of Stadium Operators and Arena Solutions CEO, Joao Gilberto Vaz.
Markerink was the project manager for the design and construction of Amsterdam ArenA between 1991 and 1995 before taking responsibility for its general management on opening in 1996. He has since been asked to advise on the development and management of many other venues and been involved in various venue-related projects worldwide.
João Gilberto Vaz is responsible for the strategic partnerships of Arena do Brasil, the Brazilian subsidiary of Amsterdam Arena. He is also president of ABRARENAS, the Brazilian Association of Multipurpose Arena Operators and Suppliers. Vaz played an important role in the establishment of ArenA do Brasil’s business and in setting up partnerships between ArenA do Brasil and large Brazilian contractors. He was heavily involved in development and management of stadiums that were built for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Both will speak about vast experience in the industry, in particular the operation of one of Europe’s top stadiums and their involvement in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
