September 25 – The 2014 World Cup in Brazil reported a doping-free championship, but the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has had to step in with a suspension following a positive test at the Asian games currently taking place in Incheon, South Korea.
The AFC Disciplinary Committee has provisionally suspended Tajistan’s Khurshed Beknazarov who tested positive for Methylhexaneamine after the match against Singapore on September 14.
Methylexaneamine is a banned substance listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List 2014. It is a performance-enhancing substance that is marketed widely under different brand names as an energy-boosting dietary supplement.
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Medical Committee & Anti-Doping Commission firstly disqualified Beknazarov from the Asian Games 2014 in accordance with the OCA Anti-Doping Rules 2009. The AFC Disciplinary Committee subsequently issued its suspension in accordance with Article 78 of the AFC Disciplinary Code read together with Article 36 of the AFC Anti-Doping Regulations.
Beknazarov is banned from taking part in any football-related activity for 30 days with the possibility of extension for a further 20 days. The case will subsequently be decided at the next meeting of the AFC Disciplinary Committee.
