October 3 – UEFA have announced FDJ (Française des Jeux), a lottery with 33,000 points of sale in 12,000 towns and villages in France, as their first main national sponsor for the expanded Euro 2016 finals.

UEFA hopes FDJ will be able to bring tournament closer to its 27 million clients through a promotional programme that will get under way next year.

Commenting on the deal, Guy-Laurent Epstein, marketing director of UEFA Events SA, said: “We are very pleased to welcome FDJ on board as the first UEFA EURO 2016 national sponsor. “

“FDJ is ideally placed to promote the event throughout the country, thanks to its proximity to the fans. FDJ has also been active in French sport for many years now so it is only natural that it should want to get involved in the biggest event in the country and share the excitement and emotions football has to offer.”

No figure for the value of the sponsorship has been announced. UEFA says that other sponsorships are in the process of being finalised.
