October 29 – The official launch of the 2018 FIFA World Cup logo took place last night in Russia at a televised ceremony that enlisted the help of an international space station crew and saw the emblem projected on to the historic Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
Present at the launch were FIFA President Blatter, chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Vitaly Mutko, FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke and 2006 World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro.
“The launch of this visual icon is a key milestone on the road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and one that we are extremely proud to share with the world,” said Blatter. “The emblem blends unique attributes of the FIFA World Cup and of Russia as host nation. It unites magic and dreams, as the FIFA World Cup will do for millions of fans in 2018.”
“The World Cup will change our country and will present a new, modern Russia to the whole world. I’m sure that staging an event of this magnitude will be something that will linger in the hearts of Russians, and in the hearts of fans right around the world, for a long time to come,” said Mutko
The official emblem was designed by Brandia Central, a brand consulting agency based in Lisbon, Portugal, and will now become the visual heart of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Further event brand assets, including the Official Look programme and the Official Slogan, are planned for launch in the first half of 2015, and the Official Poster and Official Mascot, which will be unveiled at the end of 2016.
