November 5 – Polish construction company PB Dombud has won the PLN 20.5 million (€5 million) contract to modernise Gornik Zabrze’s stadium. The upgraded and expanded stadium will be increased to a capacity of 31,871 spectators.
Under the deal, the Polish construction company has a maximum of six months to complete the works.
Currently, due to the expansion and modernisation works, the club’s Ernest E. Pohl stadium can hold 3,500 spectators.
Gornik currently plays in the Ekstraklasa, Poland’s top tier of the professional football league.
The deal was awarded by the stadium’s operator, Stadium w Zabrzu sp. z.o.o. Under the tender terms, the bids were evaluated according to two weighted criteria, with the offered price representing 80% of the assigned points, and reducing the time schedule of the works representing a further 20% of the points.
In its winning bid, PB Dombud offered to reduce the time schedule by 30 days. Other firm which submitted offers in the tender include Mostostal Zabrze GPBP and Quadrum.
Gornik was set up in 1948 and is based in Zabrze, in Poland’s south-western part. The club has won 14 Polish league titles, and six Polish Cups.
