November 6 – On the same day as AC Milan lifted the Trofeo Luigi Berlusconi after a 2-0 victory against San Lorenzo of Argentina in the San Siro, it emerged that joint CEO, Barbara Berlusconi, is pursuing the concept of a new stadium for the Rossoneri – in the same neighborhood as the Casa Milan – to form a new “quartiere Milan.”
A number of options have been considered for a new home for Milan, but looking out of the windows of her office in the Casa Milan, Silvio Berlusconi’s third daughter thought, why not build the stadium on the 45,000 square metre area between Viale Lodovico Scarampo and Via Gattamelata directly in front of club headquarters?
The land is owned by Fiera Milan Spa, a company which organises trade fairs, and the area has excellent infrastructure, being well served by both the city metro and highways.
According to report in the La Gazzetta dello Sport, a meeting has been arranged for today to discover how much Fiera Milan will be asking for the land.
Inter and Milan have reportedly already agreed that Milan will move out of the iconic stadium which the Rossoneri have called home since 1926, and which has been shared by the two Milan clubs since 1947. The San Siro will host the Champions League final in 2016.
Whatever the result of today’s meeting, the earliest Milan could actually move into a new stadium would be 2019, but there are many hurdles for Ms Berlusconi to overcome before her dream becomes a reality.
