November 12 – Amid persistent crowd disturbances and allegations of corruption that do little to enhance the country’s staging of the 2018 World Cup, the Russian Football Premier League is the latest partner to be signed up by the Qatar-based International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) to protect the country’s top division from emerging threats to safety, security and integrity.
The two parties will work together on a number of initiatives and training programmes to help educate officials, coaches, players and young athletes around the country.
Mohammed Hanzab, ICSS President, said the partnership represented “a significant boost in the fight to protect top clubs, officials and players around Russia and will hopefully play an important part of the country’s preparations in the lead up to the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup™ and 2018 FIFA World Cup.”
Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Chief Executive of the ICSS Europe, said he hoped the deal would help “usher in a new era for sport in Russia, as well as a new era in terms of governance, safety and security, integrity and youth development.”
“The Premier League is continuously working hard for the implementation of international best practices to ensure the safety and comfort of all participants in the Russian Championship,” said RFPL president Sergey Pryadkin.
