December 22 – Bulgaria’s Ludogorets Razgrad will receive an additional BGN 1 million (€500,000) from the Razgrad Municipality to continue the renovation of its stadium, the Ludogorets Arena.
Construction workers are currently working around the clock to complete the finishing work on sector “B”. In 2014 BGN 3 million (€1.5 million) was allocated for the stadium from the ‘Regions in growth’ government project. Construction work began in late August, the deadline for implementation was 180 days – ie by the end of February.
“The reconstruction of the Ludogorets Arena will continue at an accelerated pace in 2015, and for this purpose Razgrad Municipality has provided BGN 1 million,” said the Mayor of Razgrad Dencho Boyadzhiev.
“Construction and renovation activities will provide overall reconstruction of the stadium. We are currently renovating the Sector B stands, which will be called the Cosmin Moti Stand.” Moti was the Romanian defender who become a hero for Ludogorets in the decisive playoff in the Champions League against compatriots from Steaua.
The capacity of the stand will be increased by 2,355 places, and after its completion, the club will begin reconstruction and repair of the other sectors of the stadium.
The overall reconstruction of “Ludogorets Arena” will be completed by the end of 2015 with the club providing BGN 20 million (€10 million), while the local government contribution from the Municipality of Razgrad coming to a total of BGN 4 million (€2 million).
By 2016 Ludogorets Razgrad will be able to use the full the stadium and will be able to host European matches.
Currently Ludogorets use the National Stadium “Vasil Levski”, which had difficulties obtaining a license for this season’s Champions League games. The stadium in Sofia is 350 km away from Razgrad.
