January 2 – Electronic Art’s FIFA15 has been unveiled by The Entertainment Retailer’s Association as the UK’s biggest video game of 2014 after selling 2,663,296 copies, ahead of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and only coming second in the chart of the 20 best-selling video games, movies and albums of 2014 to Disney’s movie Frozen.

FIFA15, released in September 2014, received good reviews despite a few bugs in the PC version, and features “Emotional Intelligence” for the first time – with the emotional state of all 22 players on the pitch being modelled.

The new edition also features improved player and pitch modelling, animated LED ad boards, corner flag and goal frame movement, and realistic atmosphere conditions. Man to Man Battles transform defending with new shoulder barges, shirt pulling, and big fall physics allowing fans to feel the battle making dispossessing opponents more rewarding than ever.

Although Frozen (released in December 2013) topped the list with sales of over 4 million, video games were the strongest performing category, up 7.5% by value to £2.45 billion.

Despite an 8% rise in sales, FIFA15 lost out in the battle for number one position in the Chart-Track Christmas top 10 (which FIFA 14 won last year) to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare due to aggressive pricing from Activision.

FIFA16 is, of course, already in development and expected to be released in September 2015.
