January 14 – Intrigue over Lionel Messi’s future has been fuelled by the Barcelona maestro admitting he does not know where he will be playing next year.
Messi at the weekend described as “lies” reports that he is unhappy at Barca and especially with coach Luis Enrique and denied that he is seeking to move. But 24 hours later the Argentine captain only added to the rumours at the Ballon d’Or ceremony where he came second.
“I don’t know where I’ll be next year although I’ve always said I want to end my career at Barcelona,” he told reporters. “Nobody knows what the future holds especially in the football world where so many things can change overnight.”
If Messi were to leave, hardly any club could afford him, with the English Premier League trio of Manchester City, Chelsea and possibly Manchester United plus perhaps Paris St Germain being the only ones able to pay the money to clinch his services, with his buyout clause estimated at €250m million.
