February 4 – The Belarusian government has said it has earmarked funds to provide Dinamo Minsk with a new stadium by the end of 2019. The new arena will have a capacity of 25,000.
Belarus has various plans to increase the number of major sports events it hosts as part of a strategy to increase and improve the country’s international profile. The upgrading and expanding of sports facilities has become a priority for the government, Maxim Rizhenkov, an advisor to the Belarusian president for sports and physical culture, said in a televised interview on Belarus 5.
“It is a matter of honour for us to carry out all the construction works on time,” Rizhenkov said.
The costs of the latest project have not been disclosed.
The new stadium replace the Dinamo-Yuni stadium as Dinamo Minsk’s hime venue. The current facility was opened in 2000, and has a capacity of just 4,500.
Dinamo competes in the Belarusian Premier League, the country’s top tier of professional football league. In the 2014/2015 season, the side is currently ranked second, preceded by BATE Borisov. The club’s major achievements include securing seven Belarusian championships.
