February 20 – Brazilian club Vasco Da Gama will renew its major sponsorship deals with Guaracamp and Caixa. The news is a boost for the Rio club ahead of its return to the Brazilian top-flight.
Last season Vasco Da Gama spent a torrid time in the Brazilian second division. Revenues, income and gates were small, but with a young squad the club from the north of Rio de Janeiro secured its promotion back to the Brasileirao.
Vasco are now active in the Carioca championship before the national league gets underway in the spring. The club is tying up sponsorship deals to get its campaign underway. Soft-drink producer Guaracamp looks poised to contribute €2.75 million this season as shirt sponsors.
The deal has not been signed officially, but following a meeting between representatives of Guaracamp and Marco Antonio Monteiro, Vasco’s vice president of marketing, and Romulus, Vasco’s commercial coordinator, Vasco Da Gama declined to comment, but did note that talks have been good and that a new deal was on the cards.
Brazilian bank Caixa also signaled its intention to continue its sponsorship of Brazilian football, including its deal with Vasco Da Gama.
The Rio club would get €4.6 million euros from Caixa in 2015, but is holding out for €6.4 million. The bank also backs Brazil’s two biggest clubs Corinthians and Flamengo. Caixa supports the former with €9.2 million euros and the latter with €7.6 million a season respectively.
