February 27 – Manchester United, looking to move back into Champions League qualifying position this weekend, have topped the Premier League table of new Twitter followers for the second week running. Arsenal, third last week, have moved up to second, while Liverpool move up a place to third and Chelsea drop from second to fourth.
Man City hold fifth but their gains were less than half those of Man Utd and Arsenal, and only just over 50% of the gains Liverpool and Chelsea. The big four are dominating.
Burnley are still rooted at the bottom of the overall Twitter followers table as they near 100,000 followers – a figure they should beat this week. But compare this to overall table topper Arsenal’s 5.3 million followers and 36,373 new followers this week.
When it comes to the number of tweets made, Everton come out top of the table with a whopping 616 tweets, almost 200 more than second place Man City. West Ham, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, West Brom and Aston Villa all tweeted less last week and lost position.
Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, both losers in the previous weekend’s fixtures, sunk to the bottom, suggesting that performance dictates twitter activity over the next week.
