March 6 – Newcastle United’s Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse faces a lengthy ban after accepting a charge of spitting at Manchester United defender Jonny Evans in the midweek Premier League fixture.

The game was shown on live television and although Cisse apologised before being charged, he could be banned for up to six matches.

Spitting is regarded as one of the worst offences in professional football and Evans, charged with similar conduct, was due to respond to the Football Association later today though he denies any wrongdoing.

The FA said the incidents, unseen by match officials, were reviewed by a three-man panel who agreed unanimously that both players should have been sent off.
