Parma punished on and off the pitch with a 5-point losing weekend

Parma fans

March 16 – Italian crisis club Parma, thumped again 4-1 at the weekend, have had two more points deducted by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) for failing to pay their players’ salaries.

The cash-strapped Serie A club’s players have not been paid all season amid debts of €197.4 million.

The two-time UEFA cup winners, loaned €5 million last week by the other Serie A clubs to help them complete the season, have a bankruptcy hearing set for March 19.

Ownership of Parma has twice changed hands in as many months but the club, bottom of the league, are still unable to provide basic services and are on the brink of financial collapse. Should they be wound up, the rest of their fixtures could be declared 3-0 victories for their opponents.
