April 14 – Australia has given a lukewarm response to the idea of co-hosting the World Cup with New Zealand. Oceania is the only Continent still to stage the tournament and the Kiwis are apparently eyeing up the possibility of sharing the tournament with their neighbour.
Both countries co-hosted the recent cricket equivalent but Football Federation Australia (FFA) is understood to have indicated it isn’t interested in doing likewise with football.
Part of the difficulty lies in the fact that Australia are part of the Asian Football Confederation, which of course has Qatar as hosts in 2022, while New Zealand are part of Oceania.
Five years ago Australia managed only one vote when bidding for 2022 after spending millions of dollars and are believed to be reluctant to risk another damaging setback.
