Man Utd, Liverpool, Real, Inter and Roma return to US for pre-season match-ups

April 16 – Manchester United are to return to the US for their pre-season tour this summer and will defend their ‘International Champions Cup’ title which they won last last year.

The unofficial tournament – which actually didn’t feature any reigning champions of their home leagues last time out – will again feature AS Roma, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Liverpool. Fixture dates, venues and ticketing details have not been announced yet.

The tour in 2014 set a US record for a football (soccer) match in the US when 109,318 spectators piled into The Big House in Michigan to watch Man Utd beat real Madrid 3-1 last August.

Manchester United Group Managing Director, Richard Arnold, emphasised the support the team received in the US last Summer and the club’s history of playing in the US.

“This summer’s tour is the latest in a long line of visits to the US; a tradition that began some 65 years ago under the guidance of the great Sir Matt Busby. This tour will not only provide the team with first-rate preparation for the season ahead, it will also allow many of United’s eight million US followers to get closer to the Club they love,” said Arnold.

Man Utd first toured the US in 1950 and has since re-visted the country for matches 12 times.

Aon is the Presenting Partner of Manchester United’s Tour 2015, offering its expertise in risk management, insurance, reinsurance brokerage and human resources solutions.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Aon, Greg Case, said: “The tour provides the Club increased exposure to the US marketplace and presents Aon with a great opportunity to reinforce our shared values of teamwork and excellence with clients and colleagues around the country.”
