April 22 – In another sign of the worsening condition of Romanian football, FC Brasov has entered insolvency proceedings, and shortly after lost its chief executive.
Constantin Zotta tendered his resignation as the side’s chief executive, citing FC Brasov’s worsening financial situation as the main reason behind his decision, according to local media. The latest upheaval comes at a time when the side is struggling to avoid relegation from the country’s top tier, the Liga I.
In March, a court in Brasov appointed Gheorghe Alexandru-Cosmin as the troubled club’s administrator, tasking him with drafting a list of FC Brasov’s creditors by the end of April 2015.
Earlier this month, Croatian manager Vjekoslav Lokica announced he is leaving the club due to its financial woes. Lokica started working at FC Brasov in January 2015, and prior to this, managed NK Zagreb and NK Solin. He was succeeded by Romanian manager Adrian Szabo who took over in mid-April.
FC Brasov is currently ranked 12th out of the 18 teams which compete in the top tier, occupying the last spot which would enable the club to avoid relegation to the Liga II. The club’s Silviu Ploesteanu stadium has a total capacity of 8,800.
