May 4 – The Uralmash stadium in Yekaterinberg, scheduled to be a training base for the 2018 World Cup is, according to local reports, 80% complete and once landscaping is complete will open this summer.
The budgets for the build of training bases for 2018 has been cut by RUB 700 million ($14 million). The Uralmash has cost RUB 500 million ($9.6 million) and will be allocated a further RUB 94 million ($1.8 million) from the federal budget to complete the project.
The policy of import substitution of materials to Russian suppliers has saved costs at the stadium. Eight light towers that were initially to be commissioned from foreign suppliers were subsequently manufactured in Russia. The stadium has a natural grass and undersoil heating system.
“The stadium will be commissioned this summer. Now it is more than 80% ready and the rest to spend on finishing work and landscaping,” said Minister of Physical Culture, Sport and Youth Policy for the region Leonid Rapoport.
Built to a capacity of 10,000, the stadium will eventually become the home venue for the Ural football club.
