May 18 – Turkish international and current captain of Turkey’s Fenerbahce Emre Belozoglu (pictured) has been attacked by Besiktas supporters while traveling on a ferry.

The incident happened after Besiktas supporters verbally attacked the footballer who responded by confronting them.

Belozoğlu was travelling with Orhan Ak, a Basaksehirspor player, who allegedly drew a gun, leading the Besiktas supporters to disperse.

“They surrounded me in the ferry and cursed me out. I then stepped out of the car and started fighting with him. I have filed a complaint against the individuals who attacked me. I will be giving a statement to the police,” said Belozoğlu in a statement to the Turkish press.

Orhan Ak has refuted claims that he pulled a gun on the assailants and said if other passengers had not intervened, the assailants would have thrown them into the sea.
