May 28 – Poland’s copper and silver miner KGHM has sais it plans to put Zaglebie Lubin up for sale following the club’s promotion to the country’s top tier Ekstraklasa.
The company has been looking for an investor which could take over the side, reported local daily Przeglad Sportowy. Potential buyers include the city of Lubin.
Should KGHM sell its stake in the club to the municipal authorities, the company would remain as Zaglebie’s main sponsor. The amount of the potential deal has not been disclosed.
“The management board of KGHM is analysing the terms of a potential sale of Zaglebie Lubin. There are ongoing talks with the municipal authorities, but at this stage, no concrete proposals have been made so far,” said Dariusz Wyborski, a spokesperson for KGHM.
Wyborski said that, irrespectively of the potential sale, the company plans to continue its financial support for Zaglebie’s football academy.
Zaglebie Lubin was relegated to the second tier I Liga following the 2013/2014 season. The club’s major achievements include securing the championship of Poland in the 1990/1991 and 2006/2007 seasons, as well as winning the Super Cup of Poland in 2007.
