June 1 – Romania’s football federation FRF has signed a kit deal worth up to €5.4 million with Spanish sports apparel producer Joma. The company will replace Adidas which started supplying kits to the Romanian federation in 1970.
The four-year contract is estimated to be worth €1.2 million per year, on top of which Joma could provide a further €600,000 to the Romanian federation based on the national team’s performance in international competitions, reports local news site Mediafax. The new deal represents a significant improvement on the federation’s last kit deal with the German company.
Joma is well-established in Romania, where it serves as the technical sponsor of a number of sides competing in the country’s top tier. These include CFR Cluj, Gaz Metan Medias, CSU Craiova and ASA Targu Mures.
The latest deal marks Joma’s second technical sponsorship deal in Europe with a national federation, and was preceded by the Spanish company’s deal signed with Bulgaria’s football federation.
The first match which will see the Romanian national team wear Joma kits will be held on June 13 in Belfast where Romania face Northern Ireland in a Euro 2016 qualifier.
