June 12 – The sports practice of accountancy and advisory firm KPMG has launched a web portal analysing the business performance of professional clubs at www.footballbenchmark.com.

The site analyses financial, operational and sporting performance with the data available to registered users. It is further supported by insight and interpretation of the football sector.

Data includes analysis of company financial statements and reports, through to various operational criteria like attendances and sponsorship sales. The site also includes regular industry insights and comment.

Andrea Sartori, Global Head of Sport at KPMG, said: “Football Benchmark is the result of a major research initiative by KPMG to complement the work the sports practice is already doing in football, as well as demonstrate an on-going commitment to meet a recognised need of our clients.

“We have invested a significant amount of resources to gather financial and operational data from hundreds of professional football clubs. Overlaying this raw data is a business intelligence system and visualisation software which, through the creation of charts, various ratios and indices, provides analysis of the world’s biggest sport.”

Commenting on the portal’s focus to the end user Mark Roberts, Head of Football within the Sports practice, said: “The Football Benchmark portal allows the performance of a single club, a cross section of clubs or a whole league to be investigated across a variety of categories. With such a wide range of analysis opportunities available, the portal has been developed with a complete focus on providing a distinctive experience for the end user. Visitors to the portal are in charge of what they see with the ability, through a step-by-step process, to filter the data and create bespoke content to meet individual needs.”

Primarily designed for business users and KPMG’s clients, the firm is nevertheless making a significant amount of data available to non-clients.
