June 24 – Polish construction company Murapol has unveiled plans to take over top tier club Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biala. The builder, which currently serves as the Ekstraklasa side’s main sponsor and owns a 35% stake in Podbeskidzie, is aiming to increase its shareholding to become the majority owner.
Should the current negotiations between the city of Bielsko-Biala, which controls Podbeskidzie, and Murapol be successful, Murapol could take over the side before the beginning of the 2015/2016 Ekstraklasa season which is scheduled to be start on July 17.
The amount of the planned deal was not disclosed. However, the municipal authorities of Bielsko-Biala are reportedly planning to continue their financial support to the club following the potential takeover by Murapol. In 2011, the firm purchased a 24% stake in Podbeskidzie, and acquired a further 11% in 2014.
Podbeskidzie was ranked 13th out of the 16 teams competing in the 2014/2015 season of the Ekstraklasa.
The side’s stadium has a total capacity of 6,962. Under the new ownership plan, the capacity will be gradually increased to 15,076.
