Spurs digging deep with new White Hart Lane stadium amid NFL rumours

White Hart lane - new

By Paul Nicholson
June 24 – Unlike West Ham whose move to the revamped London Olympic Stadium in Stratford is costing them just £15 million in contribution to the £270 million conversion works, Tottenham Hotspur are digging deep, both into their pockets and the ground, with their new White Hart Lane stadium proposal.

Spurs have been granted planning permission to add a basement to the estimated £400 million stadium site proposal. This would increase the usage of the stadium to being able to host other events, though the club has also talked about increased parking facilities.

The Premier League club suggest that a car park that had been planned for the ground floor will now move into the mega-basement along with storage.

Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “We are delighted that this application has been approved and are grateful for the continued support of the Council for this landmark project.

“We shall, in the coming weeks, be providing further information on these updated elements with the intention of carrying out a period of consultation during the summer and submitting planning applications later in the year. As we have stated previously, these updates will be running in parallel with the works continuing on the ground.”

Rumours that Spurs have been in discussion with the NFL about staging games at the 56,000+ capacity new stadium have been growing, though the club has not clarified its position on reports of a groundshare with a new NFL franchise.

The new planning consent, granted after a meeting of the London Borough of the Haringey Planning Sub-Committee yesterday, increases the size of player changing rooms on the ground floor as well as providing additional media facilities.

The increased size of changing rooms has further fuelled the NFL is coming to Tottenham rumours – an NFL squad has 43 players

The reconstructed stadium is expected to be open in time for the start of the 2018-19 season.
