July 2 – No-one is suggesting any shenanigans or rigging by Asian syndicates but yet another football scoreline in Estonia has raised eyebrows.
Matches in the country are prone to odd results because of varying standards and Paide Linnameeskond added to that with a 31-0 thrashing of JK Raudteetoolised.
Paide, which plays in Estonia’s top flight, led 19-0 by halftime and by the end striker Sander Roivassepp had netted nine times, including eight in the first half, with midfielder Sander Sinilaid adding eight.
Earlier this month, Kuressaare was a 20-0 winner over Rapla Lokomotiv while Tallinna Infonet thrashed Virtsu Jalgpalliklubi 36-0.
The reason so many matches produce one-sided results is that the Estonian FA sanctions matches between virtual park teams and top division clubs.
Estonian FA spokesman Mihkel Uiboleht told Reuters: “The games are above board, no doubt about that.
“We have eight tiers in the country and it was first tier versus the eighth tier, so it is professionals against people who just gather once or twice a month to play amongst their friends and they might not have a football background.”
