PepsiCo ends long term MLS deal but opens with New York City new boys

PepsiCo and NYCFC

July 3 – New York City FC has added PepsiCo to its burgeoning list of partners, who will now serve as the club’s exclusive partner for carbonated soft drinks, bottled water, iced tea, potato chips and salty snacks. NYC FC in its inaugural season has already become one of the league’s most visible clubs.

PepsiCo will have their branding presence displayed on LED boards at Yankee Stadium as well as providing player meet-and-greets, pitchside access and tours and prizes to fans.

PepsiCo were partners with the MLS for 19 years but this agreement is set to expire at the end of 2015. Their bitter yet sweet tasting rivals Coca-Cola will replace their position at the lips of the MLS.

PepsiCo’s Sports Marketing Director, Justin Toman, commented: “When we look across the soccer landscape, including our new deal with the UEFA Champions League, we’re taking more of a team and athlete focused approach in the US as it makes the most sense for our system and brand.”

NYC FC’s president Tom Glick said: “We are very pleased about our partnership with PepsiCo. PepsiCo has a strong history of investing in and supporting soccer and we are looking forward to working with them here in New York to bring our fans closer to some of their favorite Pepsi products.”

The Vice President of Consumer Engagement at PepsiCo stated, “PepsiCo has been a long time supporter of soccer and we are excited to be a partner of NYCFC from day one. Together with the Club, we have some exciting, innovative plans for this inaugural season that will get fans closer to their team and favorite players.”

NYC FC’s other partners include Ford, Heineken, Etihad Airways and Nissan.
